Its official. I'm on the best roleplaying team in Colorado.
Over the weakend I went down to Ghengiscon with a bunch of friends and co-workers. For those of you who don't know (like all of you), Ghengiscon is a gaming convention held in Denver every year. We shared one room among 8 of us, so it got rather cramped, but much fun nontheless. This will end up being an incolved post, to here's the bullet points for you lazy people:
* Cold Ride Down - windows freezing faster then we could scrape off
* Made SixStones characters - took a while
* Slept - 8 people, one room >_<
* Woke up - again, room thing
* Rolling blackouts, no one would serve food
* Return to con, play LARP
* Played Who's the Werewolf at 12:10am with a bunch of friends and a cute girlscout (I think)
* Slept - floor this time
* Woke up - two hours of sleep
* Played in team roleplaying competition
* Larped a little
* Hung out trying to find cute girlscout - no luck
* Saw cute girlscout as she was leaving - bummed that I didn't get her number
* Wandered around hotel aimlessly for an hour
* Bought addictive mobious chainmail thingies
* Went to awards ceremony - found out about best rp
* End of Con
Now for those of you who care, a more in depth version:
No school, so I woke up around 11-12. Packed for the con. Got picked up around 7pm. The ride out was rather interesting, and by interesting I mean FUCKING COLD. When I left the house it was -5 (not counting wind chill) and dropping. The moister in our breath (three of us in the car) froze to the windows faster then we could scrape away. On the way out we stopped at a Noodles and CO to get some dinner.
The rest of the drive was still cold, but rather uneventfull. We finally arrived at the Hyatt hotel around 8:15 and quickly found our friend with room keys. After dropping our stuff we set out to find the LARP (live action role playing - like D&D on steroids). The next two or so hours were spent making characters; afterwords setting out to get dinner. Thankfully, this just meant a trip to the room where I left my Noodles.
The rest of the night was spent larping up until maybe 1:30am when we decided to call it a night. I know that might seam early, but its always a good idea to get your sleep Friday night, since a hell of a lot of larp stuff happens late Saturday night. I managed to snag half a bed, so I slept pretty well.
Woke up about 8 and set out to get breakfast. We all piled into cars and headed off to a Waffle place (not IHOP ewww). It proved rather easy; Original Pancake House (or something like that) was only a few blocks away. We got in expecting a nice warm meal but instead found a 20-30min wait according to the staff. We waited for about 25 minutes and decided to see what was up. It turns out that they had lost power and wouldn't be serving food until they got it back. So we left to find someplace better and settled on a Panera; awesome frech onion soup.
On returning to the hotel we played in the LARP until midnight. My friends John and Patrick played a pair of shapeshifting brothers, one who thought that it was a sin, and one who thought it was the coolest thing ever. The former was caught transforming at an early age and told by his father that "Good catholic buys don't turn into monsters" so he repressed his powers until his brother suddenly did the same thing. They showed up at the Con wondering what the hell they were. Oh, and they were half drunk.
From noon to five was the most boring chunk of time. My character got sucked into a drawn out combat that was just us sitting in the hotel lobby for 5 hours. W00t... But the fun picked up again once I started interacting with John and Pat. They are some of the best role player ever. I played until past midnight and would have played longer if it had not been for a few friends and a cute girlscout.
I was walking through the tabletop games area when some of my friends called my over to play Who's the Werewolf. I wouldn't have joined except for, you guessed it, the cute girlscout. Atleast I think she was a girlscout, she was hanging out with them the whole time... oh well, back to topic. The game is pretty silly and therefore perfect for late night games. I managed to save my life twice through use of a funny british accent; still no idea how that worked. After two games the girlscout (I think her name was Julia, or something like that) had to leave so the game became less fun. I left after a few more rounds.
Went to sleep around 2:30am knowing we had to get up for the team roleplaying competition the next day. This time I only managed to get a spot on the floor so I didn't sleep as well. Plus a few people went out drinking and came back around 5am, waking everybody.
8am wake up. Wander around the con for 45 minutes. Find my team at roleplaying muster area. We got our gm (game master for any nubs out there) and set up in a small conference room. We divied up characters and I got an overprotective brother cleric with a frost mace. My character's sister was another person in our group so I had a lot of fun shielding her from everyone, even going so far as to waste a detect evil spell on someone in our party.
We ended the competition at 1pm, not knowing our fate. While my friends went to get lunch I stayed behind to wander the con and hopefully run into previously mentioned girlscout. Unfortunately the one time I saw her she was in a pack of other girls >_<. Managed a few feats, went to every floor of the hotel, went to almost everyfloor in the cool glass evelator, and ummm... those kinda suck don't they? Oh well. On my way back down to the lobby I ran into the cute girlscout as she was leaving, but at least I got a parting smile.
Around 6 John, Patrick and I went to the con awards ceremony where we found out we'd won the team role playing award. We got a huge flag thingy to show off!!!! ^_^
Got a ride home. Passed out.
