    • In Memory of Monty

At the time of this writing, I am sitting at my desk, in my room, having just finished the short podcast Burnie, Matt, Gray, and Gus presented on behalf of Monty. It is 8:15 pm, and I feel ashamed. I feel ashamed because I did not truly look at Monty's work until it was almost too late. I just spent the last few hours before the podcast marathoning RWBY, and I will be finishing that when I have concluded here. I then intend to move on to Red vs. Blue, starting at the end of season 7, and traveling forward from there. I have to smile at this task I've given myself, because I know it will take me a good deal of time to finish. Time. That is the word of the day it seems.

The podcast was filled with stories about Monty- his undeniable efficiency, his compulsion for perfection, and his ability to work at the speed of many people put together. It makes me very sad that I did not get to know Monty personally, but each time I saw his work, I laughed- here was a guy, one guy and a few handpicked teammates, who was so far out of my league in so many ways, doing so many amazing things, I couldn't even begin to fathom it. Monty had the greatest gifts for creating, and he used them to their absolute fullest. Whether it's RWBY, Red vs. Blue, or any other of the other hundreds of things we as fans have seen and heard about, Monty operated at a whole other level. He had visions of things none of us could even imagine, and he was skilled enough, and patient enough, to put them into mediums and forms that we could really appreciate, and really say wow.

I am a creator. Burnie, Matt, Gray, and Gus are creators. Everyone at Rooster Teeth, everyone who sees the content they produce, we are all creators. Each of us possesses a unique set of skills for creating, just as Monty did. We can only hope to come to use them as he could. Monty accomplished so much in his short time here with us. He is a true inspiration, and a perfect model for his own motto- Keep Moving Forward. Monty inspires me to push myself to create. To build, to write, to draw, to make. He does this for everyone who views his work, with every motion and every line. I have been truly blessed to experience his genius. I only wish I had recognized it sooner.

Monty will live on in his work, he will live on in his creations, and in his family and friends, and in us as fans. Every time we remember a line from RWBY, or reflect on the showdown between Master Chief and Samus in Haloid, we will be celebrating Monty.

Monty leaves behind a legacy we can only hope to mirror, and I cannot imagine what else he would have accomplished if he had been given more time here. But that is perhaps the greatest beauty in Monty's work. He accomplished so much in such a short amount of time. He gave us so many gifts through his work, and through his very existence. It is not every day that someone so uniquely capable of creating is able to use these skills to such perfection.

We will all miss you Monty. Thank you for everything you have given us. We love you.

"For it is in passing that we achieve immortality." - Pyrrha, RWBY
