      stlranger

I've been doing some thinking lately. I think its time for me to leave this site.

I don't have much tying me here anymore. They've stopped the comics, I don't watch the videos anymore. And whenever I post in the forums, I'm shot down in flames. I've got no reason to stay here. I've made some friends here and for that I'm thankful.

Here's my Facebook profile if anyone's interested. In one week, this profile is getting deleted.

    • Neat trick

      stlranger

Apparently, the water line between the city main and our house has a leak. The grass on one side of the driveway has been wet the past few days, but its been hard to tell because the weather has been wet lately. Wasn't sure if it was a leak or just the ground not drying out. Turns out we used something like 2000 more gallons of water between this month and last month. That, and when the water is shut off in the house, the meter still ticks on. The problem now is the leak appears to be under the concrete driveway. I park my truck in the driveway. If they have to pull up the driveway to do the repairs, I'm going to have to park in the already congested street. This is going to be a fun week.

    • Tool box

      stlranger

I have a large tool box at work that I try to keep plugged in because I have battery chargers in there. My box hasn't moved for the past two days. I came into work this morning to find this:

      2011-12-03_07-32-01_696.jpg
      2011-12-03_07-31-48_590.jpg
      2011-12-03_07-31-40_493.jpg
      2011-12-03_07-31-33_976.jpg

Yes that is my tool box with my extension cord wrapped around it and tied rather tightly. This is the fourth time someone has tied my box up like this. My box never moved from where it was last night so its not like my box was in the way. I'm fed up. I even sent an email to the shop manager to see if something can be done. I'm tired of having to untie my box before I can start work.

What is with the sudden fascination with drawings of ponies? From what my 21 year old brother has described, it is a kids show on a network called the hub about, of all things, My Little Pony. My 21 year old brother is drawing his own ponies with his computer animation program he has for school. Why is my 21 year old brother interested in a kids show based off possibly the most girly toy in history? Honestly, its starting to freak me out.

No one can sum it up better than Trump!
      "Obama Care Explained"

      Let me get this straight . . . ...
We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and
fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people ,
without adding a single new doctor , but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents ,
written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it ,
passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it,
and signed by a President who smokes , with funding administered by a treasury chief who
didn't pay his taxes , for which we'll be taxed for four years before any
benefits take effect , by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare , all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese ,
and financed by a country that's broke!!!!!
      'What the hell could
      possibly go wrong ?

I hate it when the girl you're crushing on all of a sudden starts talking about another guy she likes and is nervous about him asking her out.

I guess that explains why she takes a couple days sometimes to respond to messages...

Back to the drawing board I guess.....

    • Shopping for new phone.

      stlranger

Ok, looking for some advice. I was with Cingular for years before AT&T bought them out, and have been with AT&T for years as well. However, as of late their selection for smart phones with physical keyboards has been lacking. Their choices have been slim. Seems everyone has gone to a touch-screen keyboard, which I loathe. I had more errors with a touch screen keyboard than T9.

So I have been shopping around at the other providers and it seems Sprint has a better selection of more high-end phones. I'll need something with GPS because I'll take it with me on road calls. I don't like getting lost in down-town Saint Louis. Having a GPS that can direct me out of town without having to stop and pull out a map would be helpful. Thus, I have been looking at the new HTC Evo Shift from Sprint. I hate Verizon. Sprint has an unlimited data plan that is appealing to me since I do a lot of web browsing as well. It also has a bigger screen, faster processor, and more internal memory than my current phone.

I currently have a Motorola Flip-side, that I have been having some problems with lately. Mostly Motorola's version of Android 2.1, which they refuse to update. I cannot remove accounts for some reason, change passwords, or receive updates from Facebook. Also, with no flash support on their browser, I cannot view some web pages. Kind of annoying.

What I was wondering is if anyone has Sprint, have they had any problems with the service. HTC seems like a decent phone company, the question I have is the reliability of Sprint's network. The reason we (being my parents and I) went with Cingular years ago is because they were the only ones that had service where I was going to school. Sprint did not have very good coverage where my school was at. But that was just over 6 years ago and I no longer go to that area. I would have liked to stay with AT&T because A: I get a discount through work and B: I'm technically still on my parents plan so I only have to pay for my line and my plan options. Switching to my own plan on Sprint would mean I'd have to pay nearly $100 a month for my service.

Let me know if anyone has any problems with Sprint. AT&T is starting to let me down.

Thanks for the info. I don't need anything military spec but something not el-cheapo would be good. Not that Canon doesn't make a good product. I'll have to do some looking around. Its not a big priority for me now. I got other big expenses to worry about.

      By no** means cheap feeling.

    • SorvatS

Yeah the XSi I wouldn't classify as rugged. It's by means cheap feeling but the more rugged the more up market and the XSi at the time of purchase was the best of the entry level, what the current X3i is now and it's specs are basically as good if not in some areas better than, minus not having video recording as the current base entry model called the X3.

As I was saying for rugged meaning they make them with tougher magnesium frames and even water resistant are the Pro models of the 7D, 5D and 1D. Which are more than $1K going up to 2-5K new. But XSi isn't bad and no worse than any good point and shoot you may have used.

ALL DSLR's will at some point get some dust on their sensor, due to the nature of being able to remove the lens. You can clean off but should only do after having read and bought the proper methods and tools. Or you can have a store do it for you. But this would be something usually after many photos, removing of the lenses etc.

XSi new three years ago was in the $700-800 range. All other X(letter) cameras are lesser entry level ones (XTi, XT, XS). The X1i, X2i and X3i are all the generational improvements from the XSi level.

There's also the current 60D which is the higher consumer level DSLR canon makes before being considered Pro which is starting with the 7D. There are older versions of this such as the 50D, 40D and so on. These are slightly larger maybe a bit more rugged than the Xseries cams.

Thanks dude, and I do appreciate. Believe me, I get it, they asked me for the time, not how to build a watch.

Problem is, many of the newer folks around the thread don't take me as seriously as I feel they should, and I do tend to take it personally when people doubt my skill simply because I DO keep the majority of my posts as short as possible.

      Well, mostly....

That's how my mom's dog Mia is. She'll drop something under the table and you have to almost have your hand on it and tell her to get it before she'll get it, and even then she'll still prefer that you get for her. Kaiya, would go nuts trying to get it herself and instead of coming to get us to get it for her, she'd just leave it there until we found it while cleaning and gave it to her. Also, she broke two dog kennels by ripping the bars apart to get out while we weren't there.

My mom's had State Farm since 95-ish and I've had them since I started driving. Same agent the whole time and same agent as now. I honestly don't even know if she's aware of the fact that I've been trying to get a hold of her. Jordan's mom has had State Farm since 96 and Jordan's had State Farm since he started driving. I'm utterly appalled by how we've been treated in the last month. I'm going to write an email directly to my agent to at least let her know I've been trying to talk to her and find out what this is all about and what we can do about the tickets that are wrong, only to be rebuffed by her office staff. When we switch we'll be taking our renter's insurance with us as well, so there's another account lost.

Texas will gladly exchange some of heat to burn off all the excess water for some rain. lol Good luck and stay safe with all the flooding!

Right before Jordan and I really started talking and becoming better friends, I was in a similar situation. The guy I liked didn't like me that way and the guy I didn't like that way wanted to seriously date me. It was weird... And confusing... OT is good though! Yay extra monies!

It's really rare for us to get this hot, this early. Usually it'll be in the 100's in August and September, but rarely in July, let alone June. This is one of the hottest summers we've had.

Apart from the rain, how is it up there?

    • maverickgtr

The high hasn't been below 100* in at least two weeks and there's no end in sight. Going outside just to walk to the mail boxes [maybe 100 feet] is enough for me to seriously nearly get a burn. And I don't really burn very easily...

Maintenance came by like 45 minutes after I posted the journal, I wasn't expecting them to come by that quickly. The inside condenser thing had a mechanical failure and was old so he replaced it. The outside unit is fine, old and inefficient, but it works. No leaks or anything.

hey, you asked what axles I have in my toyota. sorry its taken me a while to have time to answer back. They are the stock toyota 8inch axles from the early model toyota 4x4s that came out. throw some longfield axle shafts in them and they can handle a good size tire.

      Tell me about it...

The simple fact he is using a screwdriver between the primary and secondary solenoid posts while under the vehicle as opposed to doing it safely is a pretty big indicator. I can't count the number of Darwin Award winners that did something just like this with a NSS that has been shorted, they start the vehicle while in gear, or it slips out of park because the Paul isn't latched, and the fucking thing just rolls right over them.

More to the point, I walked him through the diagnostic flow charts for a no crank situation one step at a time in my two tl;dr posts, and the only reaction I basically got was "...huh?" If I had to guess, I'd say it was something he fuct up while doing the R&R on the starter itself; maybe he forgot to disconnect the battery, shorted something out, and blew a fusible link somewhere.

Like I said: Both Darwin and I wish him the best of luck....

      ...he'll need it.

Dog was tied in. I have a tie down going between the two hooks in the bed near the cab, and a short 2 foot lead attached from her to the tie downs so she can move side to side, but not really get up over the edge. The colorado has the bed hooks mounted near the floor of the bed unlike most trucks, so it works really well.
