Removed the carpets, insulation, and sound-deadening material only to discover quite a bit of holes in the floor plan.

So now I either have to cut and weld in some patches to repair the rotted sections or I need to purchase reproduction floor pans. The driver side and under the rear bench are the worst areas.

Damnit. Well, at least it seems that only the body is disintegrating and not the frame/structure. Still can't inspect that until I get it on a lift.

I'll post pictures once I find the cable for my camera.

      *************************

Edit: Anybody have any good links for body replacement parts? Floor pans, trunk pans, fenders, quarter-panels, etc?

Edit 2 Electric Boogaloo: I have some pictures albeit crappy ones from the first visit a few weeks ago. I forgot that I had loaded them. Anyway, they suck because a lot more work has been done.

Going home to work on the car. Planning to remove the carpeting, seats maybe to inspect the floors and such. If I have the time I might try to see if I can get the engine to turn over.

    • I can has project car?

      sven

      Yes, I has it.

As a mixed birthday/Christmas gift my uncle gave me his old car, an 1973 Oldsmobile 442. The car had been idle for about 20 years and when I went up to see it I was in bad shape but I was still optimistic. All of the tires had lost air, a couple were dry-rotted, and the car looked like it had sunk into the ground. There was severe rust on the left rear quarter panel and on the trunk but all of the other panels were not too bad; even the bumpers still had their chrome. Amazingly, the interior is in extremely good condition with only lots of mildew (small leak somewhere) on the carpets, etc. I haven't had much of a chance to look under the car to inspect it. The only rust I see is on the surface of the frame and I don't see any holes formed from the rust. So far, so good...

After spending the past couple weeks doing some digging, I got some help from my brother, father, and uncle (and a little help from my mother and grandma :D). Over the past 2 days we were able to dig the car out, jack it up, mount 4 new wheels (hit the parts jackpot in the trunk: 3 of the original wheels and tires, AC condenser, original cams, and misc. parts) and roll the car out of its pit of hell.

Next week I'll head home to start removing the moisture and carpets from the car. Hopefully the floor isn't rotted yet. After that, I hope that I can approval from the shop to trailer it up to school.

I'll write some more later about my intentions and other info about the car.

The broken part in the furnace had to do with igniting the gas to heat the water. Its all fixed now.

I have no heat in my house. The fireplace provides enough heat though. Repairmen were supposed to come today but I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow.

I was going to lunch with my mom and brother and as we were heading back something caught my eye.

      Hey, what's this?
      IMG_0739.jpg

EB? What does that stand for?

      GATT? Still have no idea...
      IMG_0741.jpg

      16-4? Wonder what that means...

Oh, I know what it is, its a Bugatti Veyron! Here are some more pictures:

The owner must be the CEO, president, or founder of the company where the car was parked. Usually a Ferrari (Modena or F50) or some Lamborghini (Murcialago or Gallardo) or some big Mercedes coupe (CL) is parked there. This was a pleasant surprise. The building is <1 mile from my house and hopefully I'll see the car again.

I saw some pics of it in the pond. To bad the landing from that jump didn't go too well. Did you hear about the car that ended up on it's roof going through one of the chicanes on the benton hallow stage? I think almost 10 cars or so didn't finish. Maybe more, I'm not sure what the final count was. Oh yeah, I got a shirt too smiley6.gifsmiley8.gif

I got up there thurs day morn and I worked on the East Hill/ Cutler stage in liberty both days. I did traffic control one day and chicane one. That's all I saw. I meant to go check out the Narrowsburg stages in the morning but my hotel room had black out curtains I was not aware of so I stayed in bed till really late thinking it was still dark out. I finally check my clo0ck because I felt like I had been in bed to long and it was a little too late to make the drive down for when I had to be back up :( Still really enjoyed what I did see thoguh.

well if it wasnt for the harsh california smog laws i would have a k series engine in the car..........even though the car would never ever use all the power of the engine even while going 100+ ...if i did that that means i would have to get a speedometer that goes to a higher mph then what i have smiley0.gif but nope i live in cali and they are picky as hell about emmisions

i found out finnaly what was causing the 89 integra to not turn....my main relay would work when it wanted to work...the times i pulled it out and tested it it was testing fine..i pout it back in the car would start and run fine no problem..then it would die.. so finnaly i puledd the main relay one last tiem and it tested faulty... i just happend to have a main relay that i pulled from a friedns car the day before dropped it in its been running ever since....................the valce cover you saw painted was for my crx..in which the engine is not so stock compared to what was in it...it looks stock but it has one aggresive camshaft...i also have a cold air intake on it, that is using the stock intake hose around the pipe thats in it so it will look stock... and the tranny is one story the only part from the original crx is the 5th gear...the rest are from the JDM zc engine tranny so it has some mean get up and go

Acclaim was founded in 1987 as a Delaware corporation, and maintained operations in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Australia and Japan. As they grew they purchased some independent studios, including Iguana Entertainment of Austin, Texas, and Sculptured Software of Salt Lake City, Utah.

good writeup on lease vs. buy here

if i were you, i'd probably lease to get the monthly payments down, then buy the car at the end of the lease term.

i think you can mod but if i were you i'd wait at least a year before i did, because once you start there's no stopping smiley7.gif

difference between the impreza and legacy is weight, but also length. legacy also makes less power than the STi. a little softer in the suspension, because its more luxurious... less sporty.

you're too young for a legacy, stick with the impreza. and if your mum don't like the seats, you can always get better ones.

or jump to the wrx and get the limited package, with leather smiley8.gif

but if you can afford a brand new suby, good on ya!

Dude! If its running. BUY IT. Its an older car obviously so it'll need lots of new parts but what better way to get acquainted with your car than to give it new spark plugs/wires and tires and brakes and etcetc?

And I doubbbbt its 4800....if it is its a badassed turbo. And you should buy it for sure. :DDD

Go to northamericanmotoring.com and sign up. They are a great MINI comunity. Post a topic asking for help convincing your mom and people will ive you many ways to convince her. If it does anything, it will show you how great the MINI comunity is.

    • 1nF3Rn0

Well, what are her main concerns with the mini? If you like, I could talk to her. Most moms think they are unsafe, etc, but they are some of the safest cars on the road, plus they have the ability do dodge obstacles.
