The Host is about an alien species that acts like a parasite and takes over any intelligent life form and tries to act like that life from. These parasites have found their way onto planet Earth and have taken over because they think that humans are too violent. Humans have started to figure this out and ran away and are in hiding. They are what the parasites call, still wild.
Well anyway, The Host is about one parasite called wanderer who has a bit of a reputation. She comes to our little neck of the woods, planet Earth and she's put inside a human girl. The girl is about 20 i'm guessing from the book. her name is Melanie, Mel for short. but the thing is, she's not going away. and she won't take no for an answer.
The parasite, Wanderer, has pretty much full control over Mel, except Mel hasn't fully left and she can still think and talk to Wanderer in their minds. it's like having duel thought.
But through the whole thing, Mel has been forcing memories into Wanderer's mind. Eventually Wanderer falls in love with Jared, a man Mel has fallen in love with. Wanderer wants to find him and Jamie, Mel's little brother.
so the two of them come up with a plan and ditched the Seeker. (a seeker is sort of like a body snatcher for the parasites) So anyway, Mel gives Wanderer little bits of memory at a time and gets her to try and find where Mel's uncle Jeb's hide out is in the desert. after awhile Wanderer is found out in the desert by uncle jeb. They know that Mel's been taken over by the parasite. but he takes her into his hide out anyway. they blind fold her and carry her back with them. She doesn't know where she's at or anything. but she's treated pretty badly just cause Wanderer is a parasite. time goes by and eventually Wanderer is released out of her "prison" in the storage room. Jeb makes her work and help out and eventually some people sort of ease up to her and make friends. but things get worse when Jared comes back from a raid. Jared treats her worse than the others and he's so angry that he can't contain the rage. Jamie warmed right up to her, but Jared doesn't want anyone around Wanderer. something happens to one of the survivors in the hide out and he's dieing. Doc tries to help out as much as he can, but he doesn't have the proper medication to fix him. So after awhile, Doc has to give him an overdose on morphine to put him out.
I shouldn't give anymore away about what happens. You'll have to read the book yourself. I like the book a lot, it makes you think about what could be out there and makes you think about the right to free will. I give the book 5 stars out of 5 for creative grab-you story that makes you wanna keep reading till you find out what happens in the end. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a book with a twist and a splash of romance.
