i just realised i only made 5 journal entries in the past year. fuck. i feel aweful how often im not here. ive been filthy-busy with work (promoted to 2nd in command), social life (i get drunk alot and take home slutty women. could it be better? fuck no), my writing (its crap i know, but its a damned nice escape), and TFLN stealing all my free time.

just thought i'd update ya'll on whats going on.

hey children! its syrix here, for the first time in a fair while. so to the news!

1, sorry i aint been around much, ive been lurking the CBM thread when i can, barely getting to post. life has been mucho hectic my friends, what with getting a new job, trying to put a writing portfolio together for a course im interested in, and the obligatory over indulgence required of a 19 yr old.

2, if you havent already, see I Love You, Man. very funny. The Hangover was pretty good too.

      3. if you want my attention, facebook me! i check that all the time because its my main connection with my mates.

      4. thats really all i can think of... just wanted to let y'all know im still runnin, and i miss the simple days when i just shot the shit with you guys. *epic sigh* they never prepared us for how crazy life would be did they?

      Dave out.

Edited because i forgot to mention, all of you should listen to The Frames (great little irish band i discovered a year or so back) and Seasick Steve (a blues man i discovered just today. he's fairly awesome.)

    • i wont be around for the next few days

    • The Dark Knight Review 4/4

      syrix2

Ok, so I decided to not do one giant diatripe about this magnificent film. instead i will have a few sections and a score. enjoy.

      The Script

Goyer and Nolan made a great story, which Nolans brother Jonathon helped him write a MAGNIFICENT screenplay. fucking epic. but on its own, useless, without the other attributes of this film, it could have been utter shite. so onto the next paragraph!!

      Direction

Christopher Nolan brought his Alpha game. i say alpha because that came BEFORE a. so it must be better right?
anyway, i digress, the film is gorgeous, the IMAX scenes incredible yet blended delightfully with the rest. mis en scene is fantastic, nothing there without a reason for it, and the man continues to display an uncanny ability to craft a film that leaps from quiet soft scenes to giant fucking explosions and still not seem over the top. this man deserves a fucking oscar. i swear to god.

      The Actors

      Christian bale
is once again, luminous and tragic on screen, from witty banter with alfred to voice box tearing arguments with gothams finest and lowest. he brings a lot of life to a character that could be, and has been, very stale and stony in the past. i have yet to see a film with him that i didnt love. and this is even better. its his best film yet

Maggie Gyllenhaal is very good, bringing heart to a character that was... flawed in the first film. but she is talented enough to incorporate holmes character into hers, to make it beleiveable. like a different artist drawing the same character, with a better writer at the helm.

      Aaron Eckhart
, is scary, smart, sweet kind and aboslutely stunning, he will bring you almost to tears with his arc of pain and TORMENT.

Caine, is great. i cant say much because his character doesnt really have an arc, but he is a great supporting man.

Oldman, as always, is perfect. he plays a sometimes incredibly boring character fucking amazing. every moment he is on screen he is likely to steal that scene, unless its got...

      Heath 'the man' Ledger

This guy... is fucking scary, a character hasnt chilled me to the bone so much since hopkins' lector. and he surpasses the man. the others play amazing parts, ledger IS the joker. all i have to say is pencils.

now thats done, i leave you with this, this is the only film i have ever rated so high.

      * * * * * * * * * * * out of 10

yes, there are eleven, sometimes, you can take it that high.

      EMO DOCTOR!!!!
That is all on the 11 or 12th doctor >_<

but seriously, we shall have to wait and see on Matt Smith.

Season four has to be my favorite season out of all of them. Blink was by far the greatest episode of all of them lol.
I've seen season one of torchwood, but since it's not on scifi and i barely watch BBC America i haven't quite up to date with it as Doctor Who.

'tis wonderful. the movie's fairly honorable in terms of keeping to the book, and Jamey Sheridan had a great interpretation of Flagg (though I've got to say, based on the Tower books he's not quite what I pictured).

salem's lot, I got to read just before I became a Tower Junkie, so I was a big fan of Pere Callahan afterwards.

The Stand is fantastic. Be sure to get the Uncut version (or Extended, it's called a few different things). Basically, people didn't know at first that the Man In Black was Flagg until Wizard and Glass, they were very possibly two different people, but since reprinting gunslinger it gave much more allusion to them being the same person. I don't know "Long Walk" because it's one of his Pseudonym books and I just haven't gotten around to them, but I can definitely recommend the following Tower-Related books: Insomnia, The Stand, It, Eyes of the Dragon, Talisman, Black House, and Hearts In Atlantis. Reading them again after the Tower series was really cool because the "bizarre King stuff" suddenly had a lot more importance than just "random sci-fi evils".

Also, after you get around to "Wizard and Glass" I'll tell you about how "The Mist" might actually be Tower-Related too.

    • DarthJ3sus

yeah, Wastelands was great, can't wait until I can get your thoughts on the end of the book... Book Four's more enjoyable if you've read "The Stand" (which you clearly have, unless you know Flagg's name through "Eyes of the Dragon") because there's a bunch of tie-in stuff.

Well, that photo I took on your trainline was when we went to see it last year (although the photo itself was the train station near the hall where we were staying, and we were at the station to get into the city. TO get to the actual show we used the coach we hired).

Anyway, yeah, all-original show. I've been to the last two...I signed up on the trip to see it in 2006 on a whim, because I just wanted to go on a road trip, but the show itself was fuckin hilarious. So I was pumped to go see it again last year, and it was also fuckin awesome so I made sure to get ready to see it again.

Scouts is way better than people give it credit for. I actually can't imagine life without being a scout, it's the most fun I ever had and many of my best friends, I never would have met were it not for Scouts. Plus, I get to do my own share of acting and writing for stage through it, so that's pretty pimp.

If ye feel up to coming, it'd be a blast for ya to join us, and the show will be awesome.

Dunno. Depends what my pals want to do and what time we arrive. We're not sure if driving or flying is the best bet but it'll probably be flying. We won't be going back to Canberra until Sunday, though

Of course, if you wanted, you could come and see the show and we could meet up either beforehand or in the intermission or something.
