On April 19th 2012 the Ghost Recon Future Soldier beta opened up for those with splinter cell conviction or for those who pre-ordered the game from GameStop/EBGames. As a big fan of the GRAW series, this game came as a big dissapointment. First of all, they standardized/mainstreamed the controls making it feel more like a CoD or a BF game, but in third person. When your someone who is so used to the GRAW controls, it really throws you off to begin with. While some may say that the controls arn't a problem or that its good that they used controlls that people know, it takes away from the ghost recon feel. Secondly, and this is the BIGGEST issue I have with the game and I'm sure 90% (if not 100%) of all GRAW fans are pissed about, they changed the lobby system to one that seems alot like the BF3 lobby system with the squads within teams. which means you can no longer start up a lobby match and invite all your friends to it and start playing from there and have random people join your lobby to fill any free space. This also means that you can't customise the game to your preferences (ie. game time limit, game mode, map, guns usable, spawning, or choose who is on whos team) making it very difficult for a large group of friends to have fun with the game. In the E3 2010 revieal of GRFS, they specifically stated that it is going to feel like a Ghost Recon game and not like a CoD or BF game, which is exactly what ended up happening. In turn, I went into the Beta expecting a Ghost Recon lobby system with some good old fashioned Ghost Recon controlls. Sadly they did not meet my expectations. Aside from the lobby system, once your in the game playing it, it is fun to play, it takes some getting used to but its fun and enjoyable. I'm looking forward to the release of the full game on May 22nd 2012. Hoping (without too much expectations) that there will be alot more game modes and guns, and maybe a better lobby system?....Pfff I wish! The full game also needs to have the option to change the control scheme, but in all honestly what full game doesn't have that option. if for some strange and out of this world reason they don't put it in....that's a big FAIL on their part.

Happy gaming, see you all online xD

    • Vacation Flop :(

About a week and a half ago I took a "vacation" to go snowboarding, biggest fail ever! I spent the first 3 days hanging out with friends I dont get to see often, which was great. Then I was gonna be going snowboarding on Monday, forgot to book a fucking seat on the bus so I couldn't go monday. Called in on monday to make sure I booked seats for the next 3 days, and the fucking busses wern't running all 3 days because of that stupid arctic air that blew in. Aside from being upset about busses and chair lifts not running, I think I was the only person in the province not bitching about the cold. It was only -32C
      www.theweathernetwork.com/news/storm_watch_stories3&stormfile=cold_temperatures_moving_int_120112

Ultimately the main reason of my vacation was ruined. I'm a little more then pissed about it because this was my frist time getting longer then 4 days off work at a time in 2 and a half years. Whatever, I made the best out of it, watched alot of anime, drew a few pictures, bought and ate alot of pocky :P lol, and I found this cool comic/anime/figure store and bought a sckorge figure. All in all it was ok but I wasn't near home so I couldn't play SWTOR :( so I'v been doing alot of that since I got back :)

    • Vacation time! :)

This is my last night playing SWTOR for about a week :(. I get a vacation for a week and a half for the first time in over 2 years so I'm taking off to the mountains to get some good snowboarding in :)
I'll be back in a week.

I'm so excited for the Lord of the Rings extended edition to come out on blue-ray tomorrow!!!!
to be able to play this game i just went out and bought a PS3. I got one heck of a deal on this system too. I walked into gamestop and said "what kinda bundles do you have for the PS3" and they had a deal where you got a 160GB HDD with black ops and the helghast edition of killzone 3 for the same price as the black ops bundle. Needless to say, the figurine looks bad ass!

It's been a few weeks since my last journal entry and suprisingly enough its been long enough for a number of things to occur.
1st off, I'm sad to say I won't be going to montreal this summer for warpped tour and heavy montreal due to unfortunate circumstances :(:(:(:(:(:( :'(
However, with that money I would have been spending to get there and back and feed myself and all that fun stuff, I decided to buy myself a new computer desk amoung other things. Which is a really good thing considering that my old one was litteraly falling apart. The top of the desk was being held up by duct tape so needless to say, anything would be an improvment. I ended up getting a huge ass desk thats about 5 times the size of my old one and 10 times the weight, it's nice to know that this one is nice and sturdy and isn't gonna be going anywhere lol. With the extra space on my desk I thought it was time for me to go out and buy an actual second monitor for my computer. I originally wanted to get an Acer 24" LED but ended up getting a Acer 21.5" LED due to the fact that they sold out and I didnt want to wait for shipping, but it does it's job. I believe the only things I need for my computer now is a nicer keyboard and mouse, and a high quality webcam.

On a slightly different but still nerdy note, I also bought a PS2 off ebay. (And incase anyone is wondering, I have never owned a Sony gaming system till now. I was a big nintendo fan then jumped from the gamecube to the 360 <-- best decision ever....of all time). I got it for a good price and came with a fair amount of good games such as the first 4 games to the MoH series. I also went to gamestop and found the first two god of wars for a good price, and I also bought Kingdom Hearts: Recoded and 358/2 days for the DS. Since I was at Gamestop I did some pre-ordering as well:
      GRFS (Ghost Recon: Future Soldier)
      CoD: MW3
Gears of War 3 Epic Edition XD
Gears of War 3 Limited edition console XDXDXD

Wow, all in all. Thats a lot for just a few weeks, I guess I should be updating this journal a bit more frequently to make them a bit shorter haha. And yes, all this stuff I bought with the money I was gonna be spending for the trip to montreal, and a believe there still some left over....lol

My buddy and I had some fun the other night playing on his N64. We played some old school DK64 and Mario Kart 64. That was a trip down memory lane. I feel sorry for anyone growing up now days where their first console is either a wii, ps3, or 360....they're just not as good as cartridge gaming.

    • Otafest Recap

      t_man

I should start this off by mentioning that Otafest is an anime convention that is has been held annualy since I believe 1999 in Calgary, Alberta at the UofC.

Day 1. We started off by checking into our hotel and getting everything unpacked. Afterwards we made our way down to registration at 4:30 but registration didn't start untill 5, so we were waiting in line for the first part of our convention. This line was pretty long, it went from one building through a hall way into another building, through that building and outside. Thankfully we wern't too far from the front. We got out of registration at about 5:30. We then went from the registration line to the line to get into the opening ceremonies which was at 6. The opening ceremonies was full of entertainment and a lot of commotion, but whats a convention without a lot of noise right! Haha. Afterwards we walked around the convention and took pictures and hung out with all the other otakus which is always fun smiley4.gif . Later on we went to what they called the "Video Game Challenge" where they had a video game version of jeperdy where the crowd was able to participate and shout and yell, so that was a lot of fun. We met some really cool people there. These people I liked off the start because I was wearing my recently purchases RvB shirt "I like my digital life so much better then my stupid real life," and they commented me on my shirt. I love how you can meet RvB fans everywhere smiley4.gif . After that was over we caught the last half of the "AMV Comedy & Fun Videos" that was even louder then the video game challenge and so much fun. People were cheering, shouting, yelling, dancing, running up on stage making a fool of themselfs. It was great to say the least.

Day 2. We started day 2 off by getting in line for the vendors to open so we could spend our money on everything anime! Spent a few good hours walking around the vendors before we made our way down to the "AMV Parodies of AMVs" some of the stuff there was just halarious! Directly following (in the same room) was the "Top 20 AMVs of All Time Countdown." A lot of them were really well done, some didn't really match the music very well but there were a few others that were just amazingly done, fit the mood of the song with the anime used, it was really well done and a lot of fun to go and watch with others. Directly following that was the cosplay show. Again, in the same room so we had to leave and get back in line. Only this time the line was larger then the registration line, and got delayed by 45 minutes. We waited in line for just about 2 hours to get into this thing. Unfortunately once we got into the cosplay event....it sucked...we left an hour and a half in because we just couldnt take it anymore, we kept thinking it might get good but that never happend *sigh*. Following that major disappointment we went to go check out the vendors, which were closed. After yet another dissapointment, we made our way to the "anime things" room where we caught the last bit of an anime version of Guess who which was pretty cool, I think I might go to that next year. The anime things was really fun, not a lot of people but thats actaully a good thing in this case because the room was already pretty full as it was. Lots of participation from everyone that was there so it was a blast, put me in a much better mood after the despicable cosplay show. After which, we had some time to kill so we went walking around and hungout with a bunch of the otakus, always fun no matter what. Because you never know whats going to happen. Lets just say a lot of weird unexplainable (but fun) things happened
outside the event rooms. After we kill some time we went to the last panell of the day which was the ex-director talking about whatever the hell he or the attendees wanted to talk about, btw this panell was rated 18A so immidiately we knew it was gonna be a great panell, and what do you know, we were right. This panell was supposed to go for an hour and a half but ended up going for 3 hours ending at 1am.

Day 3. Our last day started off in the main event room where we watch AMV Hell 5 which I believe can be found on youtube. www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2IBJmOmEpE
After the AMV Hell 5 we got kicked out of the main event room for the AMV Contest which was to follow the AMV Hell 5, so we left the room and got in line at the front instead of the back and noone said anything so we just went with it. Got front row center seats for the show and it was really good, the first 10 were mostly really good and kinda got sloppy untill nearing the end. There were 36 AMVs so there was a lot of entertainment. After that, the rest of the day was genreally spent outside with basically all the otakus where we saw over 50 peopld doing the caramelldansen ->www.youtube.com/watch?v=A67ZkAd1wmI at once. That was halarious, unfortunately we only caught the last bit of this but nevertheless it was very funny. We pretty much just killed time outside with everyone untill the closing ceremonies which was just as amazing as everything else that happened this weekend.

To sum everything up, I'm going to every single otafest to come no matter what! and also going to be going to Animethon in August which is in edmonton so it's not too far away, should be a lot of fun. I had a ton of fun, made some new friends, and got a lot of great memories that will never be forgotten!

    • Unforgettable forgotten night #1

      t_man

I guess I should start off by saying that this is not the first night. Just the first one that I'v documented.

I do this thing where I start drinking and dont stop drinking untill I pass out. But somewhere inbetween start and end theres a point where I black out and can no longer remember anything past that point, but I usually keep going for a few hours after blacking out. So theres always something to find out the next day

Buddy of mine threw his first outdoor party of the year now that it's finally nice outside smiley1.gif . First started off being a party with a few good friends getting shitfaced around a fire then turned into this large party where I knew maybe 20% of the people that were there. I'm 90% sure I was the first to crack open a beer and start drinking somewhere around 9 - 9:30, and most likely the first to get completely shitfaced. This time (unlike others) I did not look at a clock once after I starting to drink so I'm unaware of what time I got wasted. What I do know though, is that when I woke up....I was no longer at my friends house, still trying to figure out how I woke up someplace else. Another piece of missing info regarding last night is the whereabouts of my toque......and my pants. Woke up at noon with no pants and still a bit drunk

maybe I'll find out what happened last night eventually. In the meantime, looking forward to the next party smiley0.gif

p.s. I finally found out how I got home! 2 of my friends walked me across town to my house at 3:30 in the morning haha. Still no idea what happened from the time I blacked out to the time i got home....or what happened to my pants or toque. Maybe some things are better left forgotten lol

p.p.s.Finally found out some more disturbing info of that night which is deffinately better left forgotten. What I can say is that I found out I went to another party that night, but I don't remember it.
