wish your life away, but I'm REALLY anxious for November 15, 2011 to get here. Assassin's Creed Revelations AND Halo CE: Anniversary Edition? Christmas comes 1 month early for me!

...but I'm having a BLAST playing the Halo: Reach Multiplayer Beta! Too bad it's only temporary and we'll have to wait until September for the full experience. Anyone who has Halo 3: ODST should definitely get in on this action if you haven't already.

      Bionic Commando-Still Swingin', kind of

Okay, I recently bought Bionic Commando for the XBox 360. I had my reservations about it, but over petty issues (like Nathan's dreadlocks). I downloaded the multiplayer and it was okay. A little tricky to get the hang of swinging in a 3-D area; but it was fun. What suckered me in was in July GameStop had it on special from $59.99 down to...$19.99!?! The used was still $49.99-(don't get me started; that's another topic.) I remember how fun this game was back in 1988 when I played Bionic Commando on the NES; so I figured it was calling my name just WAY too loud to pass up.

I pop it in and, of course, it has to update, Lord knows why. What strikes me right off the bat is the main screen. It's a plain sky-blue background with the title and the honeycomb logo and nothing else...Hmm...well, can't really fault them for that, I guess. What IS cool is the menu navigation. It looks like a neuron floating through fluid and you go through rings of sub menus as you click on items. You can swivel the cord and make it act like rope. Kind of geeky, to mention; I know. Okay, the story starts off and I'm trying to get into it but it just seems too corny and over-acted. An over-the-top '80s out-for-justice kind of way. It FINALLY starts and you're without your arm! WTF?!? It was sent separate and you have to hunt it down like a set of lost car keys. Whatever...at least they give you a gun. A gun that sounds like a tin paintball gun. Anyway, you find your arm and then you go into a training flashback where you learn all the cool techniques of what your arm can do. A lot more than the original. And cool stuff like the kite ability and ripping things off such as doors/signs, then my all-time favorite: the whip-spin. So I'm all geared up and ready to use all things cool moves and many-a-unsuspecting enemies...until you start the mission.

There's a LOT OF CRAP THEY DON'T TELL YOU. First off, a bomb went off and there's a nuclear holocust's worth of radiation EVERYWHERE. And they don't tell you Bionics are very vulnerable to radiation, like newborn baby in the oven sensitive. THAT'S how they keep you from acting like SpiderMan and just truly exploring the levels like you want to. So they limit you into a very boxed-in feeling environment. They don't even tell you about the radiation sensitivity until mission 3 or so. Oh, remember all those cool moves you get to do? Yeah, you forgot them (in the game) and you have to play until it ALL comes back to you, but slowly, and not all at once. You know, 'cause you haven't used your bionic arm in 10 years. So apparently it's NOT like riding a bike. Some tricks and moves aren't available until after HALF way through the game! Oh, DON'T GO ANYWHERE NEAR WATER!!! Don't think about it, don't play around it, don't even so much as piss in a puddle. YOU WILL DROWN AND IT WILL BE QUICK. One thing that kind of ticks me off also is there's no health bar. The screen just turns a more pinkish hue (and no, I DON'T mean lightish-red.) Until you hear a beeping, then your body goes limp and it says, "Game Over". Just like that! No options, no Continue? BUT! It immediately jumps to the loading screen to restart where it last saved. You don't save. You don't get to determine when or where, it just does it on its own. And in my opinion, not often enough! It also takes forEVER to load a check/save point. Even if where you start, you immediately die, it still takes too long.

This game gets WAY too hard WAY too fast. Granted, I started out on Hard. (By the way, there are 3 difficulty levels: Normal, Hard, and Commando.) But Normal could be Easy, Hard could be Normal, and Commando could be Hard for all I know. The basic enemy is the Grunt. Easy to kill in a tiny group, but damn near impossible when there's more than 3. They have these radiation-type grenades that render your arm useless for a second and damn near kills you in the process. Anyway on the fourth mission or so, you have radiation all around you, water all under you in the streets, PLUS there are snipers FREAKING EVERYWHERE and you have to some how manage to dodge all of this while swinging in the air. Your ONLY saving grace is the snipers use a laser scope that you can see their line of sight. But they are REALLY good about tracking you in the air. You get further on in the game and there are these things called Biomechs. Imagine a robotic Hunter from Halo 3 with a jackal shield that has no weakness except for a small vent on its back THAT IT ALWAYS PROTECTS. And like Hunters, these bitches travel in pairs. Sometimes even 3 at a time. There are also enemies called Polycrafts; which are just like flying, fuck-you-up machines. They fire Gatlin guns at you non-stop and even fire missiles at you. Oh, they can go anywhere you can. You can't run, you can't hide. And they, too, can show up more than 1 at a time. About 1/3 into the game, there's a boss battle where you have to fight a Buraq helicopter. Just pause it and go online to YouTube and watch how others beat it. I actually reverted to a whiny, bratty 5 year-old and tossed my controller trying to beat this thing. It's too much to go into so just take my word for it. It actually gets easier the further you go, mainly because you are able to do all of your arm attacks. I hit a couple of patches where I had to consult the internet due to the stinking game LOCKING UP during another boss battle, but in 5 days, I beat it and none too soon. I feel like I need a break from gaming for awhile...

As far as my opinion, it's a good game, but terribly frustrating. It's a complete catch-22 with this game. The things you love will be the same things that piss you off. Is it worth the $19.99 + tax I paid for it? Absolutely. Is it worth the full retail $59.99? HELL NO!!! Bionic Commando Rearmed looks more promising and reminiscent of the original game. So take my opinion for what it's worth and make your own decision. Personal experiences may vary... smiley4.gif

I...have...no...LIFE!!! Plus, my loved ones couldn't care less. It's ok; just a little personal accomplishment that means abolutely nothing to no one but me. I reached it Sunday, July 26th with the "Tonic Collector" achievement in Bioshock. I was so into the game that I didn't notice it until my XBox bragged about me on 360voice.com. But I figured if I'm going to write my first journal entry, this would be the best, self-centered thing I could think of. smiley13.gif

They've mentioned his appearance in the early Drunk Tanks. He's in the first 5 minutes or so of the movie. He is Wynona Rider's assistant taking the bags out of the car's trunk, giving way to Al Pacino; very clean cut, sharp-dressed. You'd miss him if you weren't looking for him. It's available on Netflix now (if you have a membership.) Sorry, tried to find a video on YouTube, no luck.
