And Halo 3, of course! Yay! I have been trying to sell that old Chevy for so long and I promised myself I could not buy the 360 until I sold it. Well finally it sold last weekend and I went right out and bought the machine. I'm working my way through the game. I am playing it on easy first because I want to take time to explore the different weapons and the scenery, etc. Also I am still getting used to the 360 controls, which aren't a lot different but a little different.

I really like the controller being wireless. The graphics are definitely much better. I'm looking forward to trying some other games on it too. I am really confused about the story line though, so far. I don't know what the heck is going on. I figure I'll just not worry about it, keep killing things, and eventually it will all make sense.

    • Hello!

I am still here. Thought I'd say hi!

I have been working like a fiend, but that is good because it means that sometimes I can have fun!

I went to Venezuela in June. It was so nice! I got very tan, drank a good bit of beer, and read a lot of books.

Next week I go to San Diego for a few days. Fun!

Other than that I have been home all summer.

I did a couple of swim meets over long course season and I did pretty well. I wanted to go to a meet down in Mission Viejo but nobody on my team was going -- so that would have been boring. So I decided to try to build on the energy for the short course meters season this fall. I have 2 local meets I want to do well in. If those go well, and if there are enough people going from my team, I want to go to a meet in December in Long Beach. I went 2 years ago and it was a fun meet. I don't want to go unless I am ready though. I am trying to start sprinting again in workout. So far it's going well. But I have a little work to do.

I got called for some good gigs and also orchestra started up again and I like what we are doing.

So that's what's going on with me right now.

Just FYI for all those of you who work in offices where you might have an IT person sometimes come around to work on people's computers in your department, cube farm, whatever you want to call it.

OK let's just say the person who sits in the next cube is named John. And let's say you come walking by John's cube and the IT gal is sitting there doing whatever on John's computer. Well, MANY people might say one of the following:
      - "Oh! You're not John!", OR
      - "John, you've changed!" (heh), OR
      - "John, you look so different today!" (har), OR
      - "John, you changed your hair!" (ha!), OR
      - "You don't look like John at all!" (hunh)

Well I am just here to tell you that, even though you might be delivering one of the above lines in the most charming voice, and you might think this is an original thing to say, believe me the IT gal has heard that line before. In fact, you can rest assured that she has heard any of the above lines, INCLUDING similar variations, AT LEAST 3 times per week for several years.

After about the 2nd time, the IT gal found it no longer funny. And she's now heard it probably 1,000 times.

      Just letting you know.

I liked Prince and I liked his outfit. And his hair too. He looked good.

I was glad they didn't have some loser pop stars out there at half time like they often do.

Did anybody catch Billy Joel singing that totally cracked note right in the opening line of the national anthem? It was like on the "see" of "Oh say can you see". He landed on a totally WRONG pitch. I thought, "oh shit he's still got to get out that 'land of the free' part -- wonder if he'll make it". Aside from poor vocals, he was totally uninspiring.

I don't like the Bears. Don't like their coach and I don't like their attitude. But that's just me. Alternatively I like Peyton and I'm glad he won. Tony Dungy seems like a good guy. So I wanted them to win. And I'll admit I watched some little human interest thing about Marvin Harrison and he is such a nice guy. So yay for the nice people.

I liked that it rained the whole time. Football just ought to be played in bad weather. It looks better that way. I like when the players get muddy. Rain like that does kind of make things a little ridiculous -- all those stupid fumbles, etc. But seriously it's better than them prancing around out there in perfect weather. What fun is that? Snow is even better but I'll take what I can get.

I had some people over for dinner and I made southern food. I made chicken, collard greens, and grits. Damn that was good. I found an excellent recipe for greens with bacon in it and that came out very well, and it was so easy. I didn't want to fool with ham hocks and I sure as hell was not going out to buy fat back (do you suppose they even sell that here on the west coast - lol!). I bought 4 1/2 pounds of collard greens. I like my grits very creamy so I tried to minimize the fat in the rest of the meal so people could just enjoy the creaminess of the grits without feeling like beached whales. The whole reason I did this dinner is because my one friend -- a classic California surfer guy -- said a couple weeks ago he'd never HAD grits. Never SEEN them. And what WERE those exactly anyway? So I decided to have a little dinner party for him to have grits, because I wanted to make sure he had good ones first.

Then we all ate ice cream.

      It was a success.

I noticed I haven't done a journal since August. Very slack I know. I've been signing on pretty much every day, checking out other people's journals, etc., but haven't posted anything myself. This month I turned 36 and I bought a new car (Mazda 3). Also all the windows in my house have been replaced. Last month I got to play in a world premiere of a new piece for flute, alto flute, and string quartet. I've been traveling a little lately, but now I am not going anywhere for a while. I'm going to be making pies for Thanksgiving. I am working my ass off. That's all I can think of right now. I'll try to get back and update my photos and stuff soon. Hope everybody is well.

Forgot to add that the reason I got a new car is because my little truck that I bought new on my 23rd birthday was stolen from in front of my house in the night. It was found 2 days later, exterior mostly unharmed but interior torn up. Insurance totaled it out, providing for down payment on new car.

    • the dangers of high heels

      tqerose

I know that it is highly impractical and bad for your back and all that, but I like to wear high heels for going out. On a day to day basis I try to spend as much time as possible in flip-flops. But if the situation calls for anything remotely dressed up I put on high heels. The higher the better.

So yesterday I went to a going away blast for my friend who is moving away. It was an afternoon barbecue to which I wore jeans and a nice shirt and some high heels. When it got to be 10:00 we moved the party to this night club where we all danced until 2:00. When I got out of there I realized that my feet were killing me, and then it occurred to me that I had been on my feet for about 10 hours all told - in heels.

Well this morning I woke up and all of my toes are numb. I am not kidding. The feeling has been coming back little by little during the course of the day. I think maybe it is nerve damage? So watch out ladies. You've got to get off your feet every so often if you're going to wear those things for an extended outing.

I was not exactly sober the other night. Let's forget about that.

I am doing some work right now - waiting for a huge download to complete. This little project turned into a huge meltdown yesterday which was not fun. But I figured it all out today, which is that some little tiny print driver was wreaking havoc on the entire system. But we are past that now. Onward and forward.

I am very excited to report that I was selected to be principal in a summer orchestra that I auditioned for last week. The audition panelists commented about my breath control after I successfully played the solos in Beethoven's Leonore Overture. We'll be playing some Mahler. Fun!

My brother is coming to visit next weekend. This will only be the second time he has been here in the 10 years I have been living here.

      It is very hot today.

Yeah, I'm pissed off at the big business bigwigs too. Fucking homebuilders are the worst. They're making huge profits making McMansions all across the country, using almost fully illegal labor. I fully support fines (or even criminal prosecution) for anyone who hires an illegal immigrant. But most of all, I think we need to wall off the border completely.

We are talking about huge numbers of people here. Poles or Germans or Italians never came in large enough numbers to become a majority in any major American city. There was a constraining factor in the fact that the Atlantic Ocean is pretty damn hard to cross on your own. Percentage-wise, previous immigrants never came over in such large numbers.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your views :) I know that it is somewhat inflammatory. I left out the rich Republican business owners in my rant, but you're right, they're fully culpable, the bastards.

BTW, about my flip-flops.... My main ones now are leather and fairly dressy IMO. I have pretty flat feet, so arch support isn't really a big issue, but these flip-flops are certainly not just hard flat rubber soles. They've got support. And I can walk in them all day... in fact, I've outlasted people wearing tennis shoes. They're probably the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned.

Yeah, I don't care for plucking or waxing, but soon enough I'm going to get the laser hair removal thing. I actually like my eyebrows, they're very soft and kind of feel like fur on a short-haired dog. The I only part I don't like is the "unibrow," so I'm gonna get that done sometime soon. And it's such a small area that laser hair removal places only charge like $50 a session, with maybe 3 sessions necessary before it's pretty much gone forever.

Wow, it's been a while since I've looked on here, and the whole French thing astounds me. Prokofiev really knows his stuff.
Except it really depends on how you say what I said. It could either mean, "I want to kiss you, or I want to Fuck you." I learned this from a french teacher who, coincidentally, I ended up dating.

      Ironic huh?

So, what way could I have said that? Hmmm?

Woops.. I guess I sent a message instead of adding a comment... still learning how this stuff works. Anyhow the first means "The good mouthful of cock of morning!" and the second means "I want to kiss you, do you want to go to bed with me?" Just cause it's French doesn't make it any better.
It's stuff like this that would make me hesitate, if I were a woman, to post a picture of myself...
