About two weeks ago we finished combining wheat (Video of me doing so here). Since our main combine driver was out for the past month due to complications from a heart attack, my cousin and then myself had to learn how to drive our big combine. It was an awesome learning experience.

After we finished wheat, I had to change a few parts so that the combine would be set up to harvest onion (we grow onion for seed). I didn't quite finish that up myself because the other guy came back before I got finished, but enter another one of my jobs...

The EPA has put farms on the list of people who have to abide by oil spill prevention plans, so we had to set up a retention basin and stuff, and since we had to do that already we decided to update our fuel capacity with some large tanks. They needed some work done to them before we set them back down, as the bottoms have rusted over the years, and I'm the painting guy around the farm, so I had to clean them up and paint them with some chemical and rust resistant coatings to keep them in good shape after we set them down. Only problem is, since we're painting outdoors, in order for atmospheric conditions to be good this time of year, I basically have to paint from 10pm-6am. A week ago last saturday my uncle basically said come hell or high water, start painting them next week(last week), so I ended up making the switch to the night shift (which I normally do so we can double up driving our GPS Leveling system and keep it going 24 hours a day). I've been working nights the last week which has kept me out of most of this heat wave, thank goodness. Ain't nobody got time for 120 degrees!

So that's basically where life is right now. Working 80 hours a week, mostly at night, and surviving.

So since I've been getting back into the community, and catching up on the past episodes, I've decided to delve deeper into the plot of RvB and some stuff sorted out. I might post a series of journals on here detailing what all I get down as far as a timeline, or maybe even test my HTML/CSS skills and start up a website dedicated to it. I'm not sure.

I'm just about done doing a comprehensive review of the first 5 seasons, but before I set any of my opinions in a more solid state(I'd hate to say stone because of Burnie Lies and retcons) I want to get through the rest of the seasons, and the podcasts as best I can. That will probably shape my opinion more. I'm also gonna glean from other sources on the site as I've been directed to quite a few good projects already in progress.

Real life: had a pretty awesome adventure flying to visit my sister in Colorado this weekend. My dad is a pilot, and owns a 1958 Cessna 180, which is nearly new after having a newly overhauled engine, a new paint job, and new upholstery put in. The controls and instruments are still classic, and I'm not sure if he's planning on changing that anytime soon, but they get the job done. The flight there was a bit rough. If you've ever flown in a small plane, you'll know what I mean. I got sick quite a few times. I also learned what "moderate turbulence" means. There's only one time I thought we were gonna die: when the plane fell straight down in a downdraft for about a second. That's "moderate turbulence." Who knew.

The flight back was a lot smoother, mostly due to leaving earlier in the day(cooler air is denser and doesn't have as many pockets of turbulence) but also weather played a factor. We also got to fly in around a wildfire on the Colorado River, which was an interesting sight.

All in all life is good, I'll be back with an update when I have one.

    • Nikon D40 with OLD Nikon Lenses?

in Forums > Nikon D40 with OLD Nikon Lenses? | Follow this topic

      urmother

I bought a Nikon D40 at the beginning of this week, out of a long history of having good luck with older Nikons, and their awesome lenses. One thing is bugging me though: my dad and my uncle both have old Nikon lenses, from before they even had autofocus, and even though they still fit the mount, my D40 doesn't accept them as a lens in the automatic functions. I tried it on Manual, and I'm thinking maybe the shutter timing may be off... but I really like those lenses, and after spending 600 bucks earlier this week on a camera, I really don't want to have to go out and buy a bunch of new lenses if I can get the ones I have to work.

Anyone know any tips on getting these old lenses to work? Thanks.

... but I would much rather go out and spend time with good old conservative Christian hunters than any other group of people. Just the people who do it are so nice... Like the guy who I bought my gun from today: Fellow hunter, fellow gun enthusiast, and guess what: He is about 4 times my age, and we agree on how life should be. Because these people know how it used to be, and life was good. Yeah, there are some people who were racist, and some people protested, and some people who took offense to this, and some people who took offense to that, but the majority of people(His parents generation were 65% bible believing Christians, his generation: 36%) were content to live their lives the right way, and not be tempted to join in the falsehoods that took place continually. Now days we are hard pressed to find people so great...

I look at the people of that generation, and I see people who are so awesome. My grandfathers, my adopted grandfather, friends of all 3 of those people. Other family that is that age. Hunters that age. Those are the people I want to be like. Those are the people who I look up to.

Most look at the miniseries Band of Brothers and see a war movie translation. I look at it and see a slice of life of great men, both fighters, and in morality. They stepped up and did what was right so that other people got what they deserved, even though they didn't deserve to have to do so. They lived like some of the greatest men ever, and I am sorry that there will probably never be another generation like them.

Here's to you, older people, who did the right thing back in the day, and deserve so much more than you have. You guy's are awesome. We all owe you.

look man if the definition of parasite doesnt help you then i cant do much more
just think, you breathe, taking oxygen, good for you, good for everything, and then breathe out carbon dioxyde, bad for you, bad for everything, you need lights, you need heating, you need food, you need clothes, all this is just sucking the planet dry, even the most greenpeace-y person in the world is a polluter, it's what we are born for
in our births we are contributing to death

as for more common examples of evil, just read any fucking newspaper

but hey all this starts off at the top, anything created by a liar and a hypocrite is bound to end up pretty shitty

    • messenjah

where do you keep getting this "evil" from? i havent used that word, the word i used was "parasite"

    • messenjah

just so we're clear, i'm not talking about EVIL people here, i'm talking about ALL people
      we are the tumor

no species can be eradicated if it continues to procreate so the elimination of the offspring is paramount

think of it as like removing a tumor from someone, once the tumor is removed the body resumes normal functioning as it should

    • messenjah

you have truly missed the point
i dont care about being treated differently
to be honest after so many damn years i dont care, in fact i embrace it
im talking about mankind as a destructive force, even the most ecological person in the world pollutes, just by breathing, we pollute, we fit the definition of "parasite" to a fucking T
and just like people use rat traps, bug poison and such, makind must also be removed from the face of the earth it infects

    • messenjah

such a scenario would only be the case if it was optional
i'm talking about mandatory worldwide abortions for the next 100 years at least
my sister had a kid almost a year ago, first thing i said to the kid was "welcome to life, sorry"
      i truly believe this
      eradication is the solution

    • messenjah

but it is very important to note that the misanthropy does not just come from my life experiences but also from general observation
with all the shit i've seen go down, all the horrors people do to each other, i realised, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that mankind are no more than rats, parasites infecting all that they (we) touch, and that includes me, you and everyone else, there was a realisation that mankind is viral in its nature

      maybe so
but i knew right from the first time i concieved the picture all those months ago that it'd be impossible to explain to someone who actually does value the human race

Yeah, there is definitely a separate group of Christians (and all religious people, for that matter) like yourself who are respectful and generally quite likable... I have zero issues with such people. Heh... I mean, I am engaged to one, not to mention the vast majority of my good friends are in that group (I don't know very many other atheists, or if I do we haven't talked about it so I don't know).

I guess my problem with the larger group is that they subscribe to something comparable to racism, where they are prejudiced against me because I do not believe in a god, much less their God. One of my core values is that prejudice needs to be eliminated, so it really rubs me the wrong way.

But yeah, point is: that journal wasn't directed at you, although I can totally understand why you wanted to clarify your personal stance smiley1.gif

    • Sukhoi_27

Do you disrespect all dead as failures? Or simply soldiers? There is no where that I know that a soldier is supposed to live to complete his duty to his country.

I don't disrespect all the dead, only the soldiers because there job is to kill the enemy. By dieing the fail to do their job and i have no respect toward those who fail. Once a soldier dies in combat, they can no longer serve so they fail the country.

    • Sukhoi_27

Even if he killed the enemy better than most while he was alive?

Even if that, death is an automatic failure for a soldier.

There are soldiers who went through all of World War II without even firing a single shot. They were in support roles. Are they doing a "shameful" job just because they are making it easier for other soldiers to kill the enemy?

If a soldier is assigned to support role, then that is his job and they should do it correctly.

And if someone dies after killing multiple enemies, far more than most, are they still a failure? They killed more than a support officer has.

Yeah, death is an automatic failure for a soldier.

    • Sukhoi_27

Not perfection, just not failure. Death for a soldier is an automatic failure. The more a solider kills the enemy the better they are.

    • Sukhoi_27

So, by that logic, when you die, its because of a great form of weakness? Its not the fact that he died that matters, everyone dies. It matters what he did while he was still alive.

No, the thing is he died while doing his job "soldier" and if a soldier dies they fail their job. I don't have respect toward those who fail at what they are trained to do well.

    • Sukhoi_27

Sometimes, sacrifice is the most ultimate way of protecting something.

Sometimes, you have to put yourself in a position that you will not survive in order to do the best job you can at making sure the job gets done, and other people don't die needlessly. For example the first Medal of Honor of Operation: Enduring Freedom, when a soldier stood exposed on a 50. Caliber Machine gun on his Humvee and killed... I think it was over 200 enemy soldiers, while the rest of his squad flanked, safely, and helped secure the airport. Also, they evacuated wounded... and lots of other stuff. anyways, he was a badass, and though he died, he did it in a way that enabled more people to survive.

He still died, and that is a the greatest sign of weakness. You have to question what idiotic move did he do to get himself killed. Also, who cares about the wounded, they failed to do there job and we should just dishonorably discharge them.

    • Sukhoi_27

And there are regular graves. On the graves it tells rank. I seriously doubt people climb rank by being "Bad soldiers," the odds just came out to, okay a bullet will eventually hit you. Without modern medicine, there are quite a few that died.

One instance of failure is still failure. Only the soldiers of true courage and skill survive, and only they should be honored. Why should we praise those who failed to protect our country?

I can't believe anything can be as simple as right or wrong--teen pregnancy is "wrong" but having a beautiful child and giving it the chance to live and breathe and affect the earth is "right"--it seems to all fall into place, right or wrong.

Why would God make us so different if he wanted us all to act the same?

If as you say i am the way i am by choice then there could be only one reason i could think of (i asked myself "what if i chose to be like... why?")

and that is that i know that the world is not all sweetness and light in fact often its a dark and fucked up place full or dark fucked up people and that no one and i mean NO ONE is gonna help you get through this life because everyones too selfish looking after their own interests (and maybe me too to some extent) so the only way can survive this world is to be what i am

the way you get a dog to respect you more than anything else works for the world too

if the dog bites you bite it back harder

if the world is mean to you... you just become meaner

well now you know why i dont spend a lot of time with people in fact i refuse to do so unless i have to (like for school or church)

      im sick of being judged

im sick of being put under the microscope

you may think that everyone judges like you

      THEY DONT

a large percentage of people (especially church-going people) judge based on their own ignorant misconceptions of what i could symbolise...

to them my chains are because i want to hang myself... to me theyre koz theyre just so damn cool
to them my studs mean im a fighter and that i beat on people with no reason... which could not be further from the truth... in fact often i have to fight myself to keep myself from lashing out
to them black is the colour of evil of darkness... to me its the colour of everything... and nothing... black is a mix of all the colours in the world... but it is also the colour you see when you cant see a thing... i am everything and i am nothing

      everything they deny
      nothing worth knowing

      its that simple

    • messenjah

Its your actions that define you. You can't trust other people to go off what you feel.

thats why i love my new family (though i dont get to see them often)

because in metal and the family that it engulfs... the way people feel is more important than the way they think or act

thats my family now... the only family that ever truly properly cared about me instead of disgarding me as "not as good as his brother or sister"

ok so which one are you???

the school person who judges me for my solitary nature where i just shut up and do what is required of me and i dont talk and on top of that i look a little weird

the church person who passes me off as the spawn of the devil for my clothing and my music and my appearance

the... in fact you couldnt be this one... the girl who just laughs at my complete lack of any form of good looks, confidence or flirting ability

      I DONT TALK TO PEOPLE

their judgements are based on what their blind eyes think they can see

but Rosie... she looked at me and smiled... she came up to me and talked to me... and for the week i was with her i felt worth something again... and more than just any old something... i felt like i was special...

do you have any idea how much i crave that feeling???

we all have different drives... i dont know what yours is but mine is that feeling... that feeling of being something special to a certain someone...
