      Sooo... RWBY

I'm trying to be positive about RWBY after two episodes because I know how hard the RT guys have worked on it, so I'll talk about what I like first.

I was impressed with the character designs, particularly the main bad guy in episode 1. Kind of Kung Fu Hustle meets Clockwork Orange. The animation is also very impressive for a small independent studio like RT. The action is fun and well choreographed, except when it gets overly long and self-indulgent like in the trailers. All things considered, it's visually very good.

Unfortunately, it's falling a little flat for me in other areas like voice acting and dialog, though episode 2 was better than episode 1 in those departments. What I'm most disappointed in is the choice of setting the story in a school. I want to say that it's an anime cliche, but that's not my real problem with setting RWBY in a school. My problem is that having these 4 kick ass monster slaying girls is enough of a good concept to carry the series and putting them into some kind of monster hunting academy just ruins all the mystery and uniqueness of the characters.

So far RWBY is holding my interest, but just barely.

Well, I've finally been sucked into the world of podcasting thanks to my friends at Troll The Dice.

Troll The Dice is a weekly podcast where a bunch of grown people play Dungeons & Dragons while they curse and make rude noises into microphones.

Next week I will even be taking over Dungeon Master duties, so be sure to check us out at trollthedice.com and hit us up on twitter @TrolltheDice

      Man of Steel

I liked the new Superman movie. There, I said it.

Man of Steel had problems for sure, but overall I liked it and hope there will be sequels.

My big problem with the movie was the amount of destruction that Superman let happen during his battles. Those battles went on and on, and in my opinion were just there to boost the 3-D quota in the movie. I like action as much as the next guy, but I found myself rolling my eyes and wishing the fight sequences would end. I'll forgive a bit of bad movie making, but just stacking on action scenes to show off a technology, regardless of story, really makes me mad. I saw the same thing in the recent Wizard of Oz movie and it made me just as angry.

The story wasn't bad, in spite of all the 3-D punching. It was basically a combination of the Superman: Earth One comic book and Superman II the movie, with a bit of imagery from All Star Superman.

Some people have complained that this is an emo Superman, but I didn't see that. I just saw a Superman who was still dealing with what it means to have these powers and whether or not to be a hero. I thought the movie set up that conflict well and his reaction to that conflict seemed real to me.

      Till death do us part...

The Red Wedding can kiss my ass.

Episode 10 had better be good or I will hate Game of Thrones forever. (Or until next season. Whichever comes first.)

      Boston bombing

I've always thought that if people like these two bombers came here and experienced the American way of life for themselves that they would lose their hate of this country and see us for who we really are. I suppose these bombers have proven that to be a naive sentiment, but I still hold to the hope that America's opportunity and freedom have stopped more would-be attackers than it has provoked.

The younger bomber troubles me the most. I don't understand how a young man can be given freedom, education, and opportunity in this country and then do what he did to the people who gave him asylum. How does a kid who everyone says is just a normal guy suddenly become a terrorist? I'm hoping it was the influence of the older brother who forced him through familial bonds to participate in the attack. Still, it takes more than brotherly peer pressure to make someone plant a bomb on a busy street in the middle of a world-famous event. What could that something be? Why did he do it? I must know the answer to these questions and I hope the ensuing trial and investigation will bring them to light.

My world is a little sadder today. Not just for the act itself and the suffering of its victims, but also for my own loss of optimism that letting someone experience the good in America for themselves isn't always enough to stop their hate.

      Moroscope

This gave me a chuckle because right now my best friend is on a boat in the Caribbean with no cell service and no internet.

"One of your friends has suddenly gone missing, socially speaking. Your calls aren't getting answered, and your texts aren't getting replies. What gives? They might have some new things going on in their life. Maybe they are simply too busy to get back to you. Don't take it personally. And if they're hanging out with a new friend, don't feel threatened by it. You've got to curb any possessive impulses and know that there is plenty of room in their life for the both of you. "

I guess I was just curious because I'm a big MMA fan, but I saw your journal where you mentioned training muay thai and jiu jitsu and I figured that all you need to do is add a little bit of wrestling to that and it's MMA!

I am training, but not necessarily to fight. I just like martial arts.

But I think my instructor would like to see me start fighting eventually, so maybe I will someday.
