Holy shit look who's here it's Wizbang

I'm thinking it's time to ditch the desktop I never use. I honestly can't remember all of the specs, but here is what I recall:

      Processor: Core2Duo 4300 at 1.8GHz
Memory: 2GB of...Kingston? At decent speeds? That I can't remember...
      HDD 160GB SATA 2
I believe the video card is a GeForce 8600. I got it at Best Buy. :\
There is a TV tuner card that PN recommended. A dual tuner, I think.
      20" Widscreen Dell 2009WT monitor
5.1 Old-ass Creative speaker system that still works as new
      Astoundingly ugly case

Essentially, it was a mid-range gaming machine in mid-2007. I have no idea how much it's worth. $2? $4000? Actually I would guess somewhere around $600-$800 but I haven't been paying attention to hardware the last couple years so maybe I should just be looking for museums that want it.

I haven't really had as much time as I used to, so I haven't been on here much. Ergo, you should give me money. Here's the deal--

In June of this year, I'll be riding 100 miles around Lake Tahoe. This is very exciting!

I'm training for this ride as part of a fundraising effort with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (the training is what's taking up all my time). In America alone, more than 823,000 people are battling blood cancers. I'm raising funds to help in this fight, as a participant in their Team In Training program. I'm asking you to help out with a donation.

LLS offers a quick, secure way to donate online.

At that page you'll also be able to see my fundraising progress, as well as a journal about my progress toward my goal.

Please help me reach my $3,600 fundraising goal by April 1. Your tax-deductible donation of $25, $50, or even more will help accelerate the search for a cure for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. I hope that my participation in Team In Training will help bring hope and support to cancer patients throughout the country and around the world.

On behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, thank you very much for your support. I greatly appreciate your generosity.

EDIT: incidentally I will not be on skype until I get this fixed

I figured it was time to start building up my 20-year-old touring bike into an about-town/cyclocross bike, so I started looking at parts on Craigslist.

      IT IS ALL STOLEN

YES, you assholes, when you post nothing but a front wheel, I can tell that you stole it!

It's a really fun game, but I have an objection--

Allegedly, all channels of communication are monitored by the oppressive government, so anyone who wants to send a secret transmission must hire a Runner. But the runners are in constant radio contact with each other and with a central command-and-control sort of dude.

So why don't their clients just use their radio frequencies? Or if those frequencies AREN'T safe, how are they ever able to successfully complete a delivery?

I was megaskeptical at first. I'd heard about their launch delays and so forth, and I figured it would be pretty suck.

But really...it's pretty good. There are no anime music videos or any of that youtube crap, and it's apparently free of DRM. It even works on linux! Sure, you have to wait through a 15-second message. Oh friggin wah!

      I like it and that's final! :-)

It's not like it really hurts - at least anymore. The worst time I did it was when I grabbed a three-way switch with my whole hand and it was live (someone turned the breaker on without telling me). My arm was only twitching for about 15 minutes and then it was fine!

I would offer an example [of Python spacing] but RT destroys whitespace, so it wouldn't look right anyhow.

If you want, I can keep an eye on that thread and change quote boxes to code boxes for you guys.

    • TheSwmnCello

Oh, in that case it must've taken quite some time to find one so tame. You know, if you wanted a picture with a python, you probably should've included the word "python" in your search somewhere... you know, like "sexy teacher with snake".

If it's a CRT, try turning up your refresh rate and getting rid of any fluorescent lights you may have shining on it.

That'd be a problem as the only light source in here is the windows or a big flourescent light on the ceiling, so at night, that's it.

I'm just going to try and get it to last until I can afford a new one. I've been wanting a flatscreen for quite a while, and now I have an excuse to get one.

Hahaha. Nice. I hadn't thought about that.

The picture is Sergio Leone on the set of Fistful of Dollars. He knew 2 phrases in english. one was "Goodbye", the other was "Watch me". He directed Eastwood on the set by saying "Watch me, Clint", and then acting out what he wanted him to do.

I actually did go talk to an advisor to make sure I met the requirements. He used the same tool.

Really, as long as they keep the requirements in it up to date - and since I think it's their official tool for checking these things, they do - it's not something that can fail easily. They can give it pretty flexible requirements, like "x classes out of this set of classes".

Where the hell did that Nobel Prize stuff come from all of a sudden?

'cause it goes with the "it isn't the facts that matter, just the meaning behind it" theme.
