Guys, I know it's been a while but I've got a problem with a Linksys wireless b usb adaptor, probably about 4 or 5 years old. Running XP Pro SP2 and is running on a USB2 port.

Now the problem. Windows recognizes that the USB Adapter is there, but it will not create a Wireless Network Connection with it. I thought it might be a conflict with another wireless adapter I had installed so i uninstalled it and tried again. No such luck. I've tried the windows wireless network connection wizard and the wizard cannot find the wireless adapter, it see the wired but not the wireless and when it click on the next to continue button is comes up with an error saying not all devices are there and i should check the ignore disconnected hardware button. Any suggestions guys?

I'm kinda stumped by this. There is a laptop here at work that has been working for the past 2 years without problem. Its a Gateway with a Broadcom Network Adapter. Model number shouldn't be needed. But the network card on the docking station isn't working. It was working as of this morning and the only thing different now than this morning is the fact that it used in a different office. First thought was bad cable, but all the cables checked out fine. Next was thinking it was just not being recognized, after checking the device manager, the network card is there and is without issues. Next I try disabling and re-enabling the card. Doesn't work... Then rebooted the computer, and it still isn't working. I can't think of anything else to try to do to fix it, it doesn't seem hardware, but it doesn't seem software either, but it has to be one or the other.

      Any Ideas??

So my roommate seemed to get her camera to screw up... It's an Olympus Stylus 600. Her memory card says it needs to be formatted, but i know for a fact that it doesn't... This has happened several time in the past few months. Is it a problem with the camera or the memory card. and is there a way to save the pictures on the card... since windows seems to think that it needs to be formatted even though it doesn't need to be. would accessing it using linux make it available to save them. This one seems to really have me stumped.

Have a Gen1 nano 4GB Black, had it for almost 2 years (in september). Before i say anything else, I have tried the 5 R's from Apple, and still no luck. Now for the problem, what happens is that the Touchwheel and other things randomly stop working until one day the only thing that works is Reseting it and the Hold button. It goes to standby mode and that jazz. I have even gone to reformatting the iPod and reinserting my songs. I have begun to run out of ideas... Anyone know of a possible solution or why this would be happening, when it first started happening it appeared to be heat related, but now that it doesn't work anymore, rather the wheel or buttons, I am willing to try about anything. Also it is not in warrenty anymore.

I'm building an Instant Messaging server at work for internal use. I have been trying for the past few weeks to get ejabberd 1.1.3 to work but to no avail it hasn't yet.

Things it needs to be able to do(requirements):

      Runnable on windows server2k3
Runnable as a service and not as an application
Authenticate against LDAP and Active Directory
      Output to MySQL database

Any input is appreciated. Suggestions followed by links are even better.

I know this could technically go into the help me choose thread, but creating my own thread as this is going to ask for suggestions and discussion of different type of storage.

      Secondly,

I need help finding a NAS/SAN/ISCSI/Storage Server with at least 6 TB and capabilities of a RAID-10 or RAID-6

Links are needed as i need quotes from specific companys for this.

      Thanks ahead of time.

I have a Xerox Phaser 6100 Color Laser printer that has been having a problem printing. Now i know of a few things it could be, like the imaging unit, the roller, or the transfer unit. I just need some help narrowing it down to what it most likely is. Now the Printer prints fine, and feeds the paper fine. Now when it prints, completely random portions of the printed page have missing parts or are completely absent of a certain color. I know its not the toner cartridges them selves as they all have about 60% life left. What could this problem potentially be.

did you notice how i said changing to XP can make your PC cheaper...? i know vista comes only on DVD and minimum requirements are of ~1GB of memory. I am running XP professional on a 1996 laptop with a 150MHz processor and 100MB of ram. please take note of how i said

of course, you can get Windows XP instead,

because XP is currently the more user friendly and virtually bug-free Windows, has lower minimum requirements, and since you really want to argue with me, comes on the media called Compact Disc.

I have every version of MS DOS that was made, do you have a particular version in mind? Also you just copy the files and put them on the drive and have the computer boot to the USB drive, some comps dont work with USB boot devices.

Dude you are a technical mastermind I've been active in technology and experimenting deply in how things work since I was seven I am now fourteen and an incoming Freshman in highschool. I would love for you to be on my friends list because I am opening a site (temp site until my friend gets the coding down) and I'm starting a podcast and looking for a cohost. I would love for you to be Co-Host on my technology podcast that I hope to start soon and can even start recording now and setup a temp link for the rss file on a free server so users could subscrive via itunes.

z0dE, I like your monitor recommandation a lot but my graphics card cannot handle the 1440x900 resolution, just up to the standard 19" monitors (1280x1024) and many of my games can't as well (Halo, SC:CT, etc). Is there some way I can enable games and the desktop to work with the 1440x900? If not I see regular 19" made by SCEPTRE here and here. Or another brand if you have other good ones?

It seems like you know your technical crap and it would help me a ton for more advice, thanks!

lmao, DOS =/= windows DOS or disk operating system is command line interface only. Microsoft made them both, although they stole them both. Other than the fact that earlier versions of windows ran on top of dos, they are pretty much mutually exlusive. Please don't take this comment as bagging on you in anyway.

And, I just checked. Apparently, both of those emails are right. Who knew? smiley1.gif

Well, the only job I could possibly get you at my place is mine... and that isn't going to be happening. smiley8.gif You might want to send an email to rwillis@troyoh.faurecia.com (might be rwillis@troywest.faurecia.com... I'll have to check tomorrow when I'm back at work) and just send the basic "just feeling you out for a job" cover letter/resume. I don't recommend mentioning my name, though. I'm the only non-Corporate IT guy, and they don't really like me that much (which is fine... it's mutual). We've got the main site in Toledo, which probably wouldn't have an opening, but we've got two plants in Troy that currently only have Roger Willis and Jon Purdy working at them, and Roger's more a coordinator than a tech. They might appreciate the cold call.

Your car sounds like it is quite fun. I wish I had the money to do the same to my Sentra. My car will eventually get tuned, maybe not that much, but it will.
